New mayor for Dawlish
Dawlish Town Council has chosen a new mayor for the town.
Cllr Rosie Dawson was elected mayor, and Cllr Lin Goodman-Bradbury deputy mayor, at a meeting on Wednesday (17 May).
Both represent the Dawlish North East ward for the Liberal Democrats at Dawlish Town Council and Teignbridge District Council.
Cllr Dawson said: " It is with great enthusiasm and passion that I accept the role of Mayor of Dawlish.
"Thank you very much to [the previous Mayor of Dawlish] Cllr Mayne for her commitment over the last 12 months and for the many whispers that we've had shared as she's shown me what we need to do.
"And to all the other mayors who have come before me as well, who I've seen greet this responsibility with great creativity and care.
"I first became interested in council after my then-toddler daughter became besotted with Cllr Howard Almond, who, when he was mayor, thinking that he was the King of England, and we tracked that poor mayor down at every event that he attended.
"I hope to have a busy year representing the council and our parish, helping councillors to achieve the best they can for Dawlish and raising both awareness and funds.
"The three charities that I have chosen to support are in memory of Albina Yevko, Devon Air Ambulance; in memory of Jenny Gibson, Dawlish Museum; and last, but by no means least, Dawlish Library.
"We are very fortunate in town council to have the support from a great office team, and I look forward to working more closely with them over the next year.
"So let's get to work."
Cllr Lisa Mayne was the previous mayor and was elected in May 2022.
Mayoral elections happen each year at the town council's annual meeting.
