Dawlish Town Council has today (Wednesday 4 May) elected a new mayor for the town.

Cllr Lisa Mayne, who represents Dawlish North East, was elected mayor, and Cllr Rosie Dawson deputy mayor.

The new incumbent, Cllr Mayne, who was also Mayor of Dawlish for 2018-19, said: "I'd like to thank all my fellow members of Dawlish Town Council for giving me this opportunity to become mayor for the second time.

"I hope I can live up to the trust that you're putting into me. There are very exciting times ahead, especially this jubilee year.

"I'm honoured to be able to represent Dawlish, however I do know I follow a very hardworking and well respected mayor. I hope that I live up to her footsteps.

"Hopefully now that Covid restrictions are lifted it will be much easier to get involved and attend events and represent Dawlish Town Council."

Cllr Val Mawhood, the previous mayor elected in May 2021, offered her 'sincere good wishes' to Cllr Mayne.

She said: "I am very grateful for the support I have received personally from individuals, local businesses and organisations, and of course the [town] clerk and administrative staff, which has enabled me to make the most of my year as mayor, and to achieve a substantial total fund [of £6k] for distribution amongst my chosen youth organisations in the parish."

Councillors are chosen to be mayor and deputy mayor each year at the town council's annual meeting in May.
