Police confirm 'no third-party involvement' in death of Ukrainian girl, 14, found on Dawlish beach
A police investigation into the death of a 14-year-old Ukrainian girl who died in hospital after being found unconscious on Dawlish beach has concluded there was "no third-party involvement" and that her death was not suspicious.
Police were called on Saturday evening (4 March) to reports Albina Yevko had gone missing from the Dawlish area, where she had been living.
Searches with support from the police helicopter and coastguard were carried out and she was found unconscious on Dawlish beach.
The teenager was airlifted to hospital where she later died.
Police have since made enquiries in Dawlish, looked at CCTV and Albina's phone, and a forensic post-mortem has also been carried out.
Detective Inspector Becky Davies said: "Investigative officers can confirm that there was no third-party involvement and that the death of Albina Yevko is not suspicious.
"Our investigation shows that Albina had settled very well in the UK since moving from Ukraine and enjoyed living by the sea and being part of a new family.
"She had made good friends, both Ukranian and English in the UK, enjoyed school and was very much welcomed by the local community.
"We have informed Albina's next of kin of our findings and we ask that their privacy is respected at such a difficult time.
"We would like to thank everyone who has helped us with our investigation into this matter. Our thoughts are with all who knew Albina at this tragic time."
Anyone with information who has not yet spoken with police is asked to contact [email protected] quoting case reference 50230052081.
A file will now be prepared for the coroner, who will hold an inquest into her death in due course.
