Outgoing Mayor of Dawlish Cllr Val Mawhood has presented six local youth groups with cheques of £1,000 each.
Cllr Mawhood was able to raise as much as £6,000 during her year as mayor at fundraising events, and has thanked all those who attended and supported her.
The recipients of the cheques were Dawlish Warren Life Saving Club, Dawlish United Football Club, Dawlish Lawn Tennis Club, 1st Dawlish Scouts, Air Cadets 2401 Dawlish Squadron, and Girl Guiding Dawlish and Starcross District.
At a town council meeting last week, she said: "I am very grateful for the support I have received personally from individuals, local businesses and organisations, and of course the [town] clerk and administrative staff, which has enabled me to make the most of my year as mayor, and to achieve a substantial total fund [of £6k] for distribution amongst my chosen youth organisations in the parish."
The meeting last week also saw Cllr Lisa Mayne elected as the new Mayor of Dawlish for 2022-23.
