Angie Weatherhead is standing for election as an independent to represent the Dawlish South West ward at Teignbridge District Council.

----------

I have lived in Dawlish since 2002 and am proud to be part of this local community where I live, work and volunteer.

My background is as a librarian and working in information management.

Through my experiences working with various local organisations and by volunteering, I believe I understand what people want locally.

I was the co-ordinator at Open Daw (Dawlish Community Information Centre) from 2014 to 2019 helping people with all sorts of different queries.

At the same time with my husband Huw, we set up Weatherheads Web working on international information projects (many related to needs of amputees), whilst also creating low-cost websites for local groups. I have been involved with many local successful projects.

Although I work for the town council I can still stand as an independent councillor for the district council. I understand how councils operate and that it needs a firm will to get things done.

When the pandemic came I co-ordinated 'Helping Dawlish' bringing local organisations together to respond to the crisis, and this now focuses on the cost-of-living crisis and supporting Ukrainian hosts and guests.

Throughout 2021 I led the car park marshals at the vaccination centre at Dawlish Hospital. Since 2016 I have been part of the volunteer team behind Dawlish Celebrates Carnival and in 2020 became chairman.

Why am I standing for election? I feel the district council needs more independent voices – I've not stood before so I'm standing up rather than just talking about it!

I would bring a fresh pair of eyes to represent this ward and want to see that our area gets its fair share of support. I won't be voting along any party lines but will vote according to what I hear from residents, and what I believe is right for Dawlish.
