Weekend review: Pennywell Farm, Buckfastleigh | Opinion
Located here on Google Maps near Buckfastleigh, Pennywell Farm is a real hidden gem for family days out.
What was it like?
I went there with my family last weekend, and was expecting a kind of run-of-the-mill farm in which you can view the animals from a distance and then get bored and go home.
But Pennywell Farm surprised me by just how fun it was - I found myself loving every minute, from feeding lambs out of my hand to cradling a miniature pig.
They had a large variety of animals, including miniature ponies, sheep, goats, ducks, and even ferrets and alpacas.
On the farm, there were so many things to do and it was all very child-friendly.
There were places to feed some of the animals, cafes, ice cream huts, a large tractor ride, a petting zoo/ animal holding area, and more besides.
One of their best attractions I saw was a pig race, in which they led pigs along an obstacle course (at a slow speed) - and gave each of them a hilarious name, such as Natalie Porkman or Swionel Richie.
In the animal holding area, the miniature pig fell asleep on us, looking very content! We also had the chance to hold mice, guinea pigs, and ducklings.
Make sure to bring your own blanket if you'd like to hold the animals.
How much is it?
You need to book in advance before you go - click here to go to their website (the ticket prices are at the bottom of the page).
For adults it's £15.95, and for kids aged 3-15 it's £12.95.
How can I get there?
From Dawlish just head up to the Devon Expressway and jump off after Buckfastleigh.
You can find the farm here just south of the town.
It's a fantastic day out, and I can't recommend it enough.
