A planning application to add a new section onto the Teign Estuary Trail has now been submitted.

The proposal to build a new five-kilometre section from the Passage House Inn to La Roche Maurice Walk east of Bishopsteignton on the A381 was met with widespread public support in a public consultation last year.

The consultation saw as many as 92% in support, from a total of more than 3000 responses.

Teignbridge Executive Member for Planning, Councillor Gary Taylor, said: "The consultation showed there was virtually universal support for extending the Teign Estuary Trail and I am delighted that progress is being made with the submission of this planning application.

"The Trail is an important development for safer cycling travel as well as for leisure pursuits and I hope that the planning process is completed swiftly so work can get underway once funding is secured."

The trail currently runs from Town Quay in Newton Abbot to Kingsteignton and from Newton Abbot Racecourse to the Passage House Inn. The long-term strategy could see it extend all the way to Dawlish and from there connect to the Exe Estuary Trail.
