Tributes are pouring in in Dawlish following the announcement of the death of Her Royal Highness Queen Elizabeth II.

The Queen passed away peacefully at Balmoral this afternoon, according to Buckingham Palace.

Newton Abbot MP Anne Marie Morris, whose constituency includes Dawlish, said: "Queen Elizabeth II has been the heart and soul of the United Kingdom dedicating her life in every way to this country, its citizens, the Commonwealth, and beyond for over 70 years.

"We have not seen her like before and are unlikely to see another like her. She was special, not least acting as a bridge to historical milestones and individuals; a shining example for us all.

"We owe her our love, our gratitude and our long-term respect for what she achieved. She will never be forgotten and may she rest in peace.

"My thoughts are with His Majesty the King and other members of the Royal Family at this time".

Mayor of Dawlish Cllr Lisa Mayne said: "The Queen has been on the throne longer than I have been alive.

"Earlier this year, we were lucky enough to celebrate her Platinum Jubilee, which felt like a giant thank-you to her for service to this country.

"At this time we must remember she was also a mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and will be sorely missed by all her extended family as well as the rest of world.

"May she rest in peace."

Devon County Councillor for Dawlish Martin Wrigley said: "For seventy years this country has been guided by the Queen who has been a steady and resolute symbol of our nation.

"At this time let's also remember her as a person who dedicated her life to public service.

"The nation will miss her. My sympathy goes out to her family."

Teignbridge District Councillor for Dawlish South West Gary Taylor said: "It is with great sadness that we have learned of the death of Queen Elizabeth and I know the whole country and millions across the world will mourn her passing.

"She has been a most remarkable and much-loved monarch and will be remembered not just for her lifetime of service to us all, but also for her humility, her kindness, her humour and her faith. May she rest in peace."
