Local residents and members of the public are being invited to test a new app this week on Dawlish seafront.

The app, called 'Walk With Us', features a self-guided walk along the seafront from the colonnade underpass to Coryton Cove, and uses audio and 'augmented reality' to tell the story of a deep sea diver.

Augmented reality is similar to Pokemon Go - if you point your phone's camera at the seafront on Friday, images and visuals will appear as if they are there on the walkway on your phone screen.

The app, which explores coastal and climate change, will launch in July.

A spokesperson said: "Walk With Us is for everybody interested in the sea, what lives in it, and how it affects us.

"The walk lasts around thirty minutes, covers a distance of a little less than a mile, and has level access.

"We will provide phones and have some headphones that you can borrow if you need. These will be disinfected between each use but you may want to bring your own headphones if you prefer (3.5mm jack).

"Dive takes you from the viaduct along the seawall to Coryton Cove, on a magical underwater walk. Blending real life with science fiction visuals, you'll descend into the ocean while never actually getting your feet wet."

Each play-test slot lasts for one hour for walking time and feedback, and includes a maximum of four testers per slot.

Testers are invited to arrive five minutes before the start of their slot, and organisers will be on the seafront next to the colonnade viaduct.
