Dawlish's new mayor was pelted with wet sponges in the stocks at Gatehouse Primary Academy's summer fayre on Friday (16 June).

The event featured dance demonstrations, circus skills, The Local Scoop ice cream, pizza and more.

Also taking turns in the stocks were Miss Tomlinson, deputy headteacher Mr Stephens and headteacher Mrs Naldrett.

Mayor of Dawlish Rosie Dawson said: "That was a bit colder and wetter than I had anticipated, and Mr Stephens was enjoying himself a little too much!

"As a community we must do all we can to support educators right now. Prices of resources have soared and schools struggle to continue to provide what is needed for the children."

The retiring head of the PTA, Ellie Starkey, thanked local businesses and organisations (including the local police) for supporting the event.
