Dawlish Town Council is inviting local residents to join its 'Outstanding With Loneliness' (OWL) project, which aims to reduce loneliness in the parish.

It provides certificates, badges, and plaques recognising the work of individuals and organisations combating loneliness. It also encourages people to be 'proactive around those who sometimes feel lonely and isolated'.

Examples of helping people it gave include helping with shopping, walking dogs, and encouraging individuals to join local groups.

A spokesperson for Dawlish Town Council said: "Loneliness can affect people of all ages, but older people are especially vulnerable to social isolation.

"The Parish of Dawlish has 30% of its population over 65 years old and many live on their own.

"Even though Covid-19 restrictions have been lifted, many people will still feel lonely and isolated, especially anxious about the uncertainty of the future. "

How can I join?

Individuals, voluntary organisations, businesses, charities, and schools are all eligible to join the OWL project. Individuals will get a certificate and badge, and charities and voluntary organisations will get a plaque.

You can also nominate someone or an organisation for their work.
