The carving of a swan-themed throne from a tree stump on Dawlish Lawn is now underway.

The stump is of a mature horse chestnut tree that was felled earlier this year due to it being "in very poor condition and almost dead".

Andrew Frost, a tree and wood sculptor who has also completed other works at Dawlish Countryside Park and Decoy Country Park, is taking on the project.

Dawlish Town Council asked for the stump to be left for a carving to be made - and also asked the public what they wanted to see in a consultation.

A spokesperson for Dawlish Town Council said that the carving "is likely to be finished on Monday, weather permitting."

The project has been funded by Dawlish Town Council and Devon County Councillor Martin Wrigley's locality budget.
