Police have said that a man arrested in connection with a series of shopliftings in Dawlish, Teignmouth and the surrounding area has been sentenced to 39 weeks in prison.

It comes after a warning about an individual shoplifting in Dawlish was issued earlier this month.

Police have thanked the public for their help and support.

A spokesperson for Devon and Cornwall Police said on social media: "Shoplifting update - We have arrested a male in connection to a series of shopliftings in Dawlish, Teignmouth and the surrounding area.

"He has been sentenced to 39 weeks in prison.

"Thank you for your help and support on this matter."
