Dawlish firefighters were called out to Starcross just after 12pm yesterday (Thursday 10 February) to reports of smoke coming from a commercial property.

Fire crews from Danes Castle and Middlemoor also attended.

They found that the smoke was coming from an oil leak on the surface of a vacuum pump. They gave advice to staff on site, then returned to their respective stations.

A spokesperson for Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service said: "Three fire engines, an aerial ladder platform and water carrier was mobilised to a commercial property following reports of smoke issuing, confirming that an evacuation was taking place.

"When crews arrived, they confirmed that smoke was issuing from an oil leak on the surface of a vacuum pump.

"During their time on-site, crews used breathing apparatus, hose reel jets, thermal image camera, small tools.

"Advice was given to staff on-site before crews returned to their home stations."
