Update 12.51pm: The A30 has now reopened, but traffic is still reportedly queueing.

An AA traffic alert read: "The A30 was closed Westbound but this cleared around 11:30."

Original article 9.49am: The A30 is partially blocked and diversions are in place after a lorry struck a bridge at the roundabout near Ide and the Alphington area of Exeter.

Police have said that they were contacted at around 6.45am today (Tuesday 7 December). The bed of the lorry is reportedly 'wedged' and other emergency services are at the scene.

A spokesperson for Devon and Cornwall Police said on social media: "Police were contacted at around 6:45am today (Tuesday 7 December) with reports of a truck having hit the bridge at Ide on the A30; the bed of the lorry is wedged and ambulance, fire and Highways are all in attendance; we also await the arrival of a structural engineer.

"Early indications are that the road will remain closed for at least 2 hours, and road users are advised to seek alternative routes."

The AA is reporting queueing traffic, and that the A30 westbound carriageway is closed and being diverted.

A traffic alert from the AA read: "Partially blocked and queueing traffic due to bridge struck by vehicle on A377 at A30 (Alphington Junction).

"A lorry has struck the A30 on the northern side of the Alphington Junction roundabout, resulting in the A30 Westbound closed and diverted via the roundabout."

We will provide further updates as they come in.
