Firefighters from Teignmouth, Newton Abbot, and Torquay responded to a fire in a property in Bishopsteignton at around 11.23am on Saturday 4 December.

A neighbour had reported that the smoke alarm was sounding and there was a smell of smoke.

The fire crews found the property empty. There was a small fire in the first floor bathroom involving towels and toilet roll, the cause of which was 'deemed as accidental'.

A spokesperson for Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service said: "Crews attended a property which had been reported by a neighbour due to a smoke alarm sounding and a smell of smoke.

"Crews gained entry to the empty property, and confirmed a small fire in the first floor bathroom involving towels and toilet roll.

"Crews entered the property using two breathing apparatus, and one hose reel jet.

"Crews removed the burning items to open air, and checked the property with thermal imaging cameras.

"The cause of the fire was deemed as accidental."
