Update: GWR has now advised against all travel as it is 'unable to run trains across the majority of our network'.

Great Western Railway has issued a warning for people not to travel unless essential today (Friday 18 February) as Storm Eunice makes landfall in the UK.

It comes after the Met Office issued an amber warning for the local area, and warned of 'extremely strong winds'.

The line between Newton Abbot and Exeter remains open at the time of writing, but there are cancellations and delays.

People with train tickets for today can use them until Monday 21 February.

The warning was issued at 9.30am. It reads: "Our advice is not to travel on most parts of our network unless your journey is essential.

"Some branch lines in Devon and Cornwall are also closed, and where bus replacement services are able to operate, they are likely to be affected by poor road conditions.

"GWR is allowing customers with tickets for travel today (Friday 18 February) to travel up to and including Monday 21 February.

"Normal refund rules apply."

You can check if your journey will be affected here.
