UPDATE: Motorcyclist dies in serious crash in Teignmouth

Update Tuesday 2 August 08.29am: The motorcyclist involved in the crash died at the scene. Police are appealing for witnesses of the collision and the road has reopened.

Emergency services were called at around 12pm yesterday (Monday 1 August) to a crash involving a black Kia Sportage towing a caravan and an orange Zontes motorcycle on the A381 Bishopsteignton Road near Broadmeadow Industrial Estate.

The motorcyclist, a man in his 70s from Paignton, suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The Kia driver was uninjured.

The road was closed until around 7pm for a specialist examination of the scene.

The A381 in Teignmouth is closed both ways from the Morrisons supermarket to the A379 Shaldon Bridge after a crash between a car and a motorcycle today (Monday 1 August).

Police were called at around midday. The condition of any individuals involved is not yet known.

The crash has been described as 'serious' and all emergency services are at the scene. A Devon Air Ambulance helicopter has been seen nearby.

Police have said that the road will remain closed for the foreseeable future and are advising road users to avoid the area and look for alternative routes.

A spokesperson for Devon and Cornwall Police said: "Police were called at around midday with reports of a serious collision between a car and a motorbike on Newton Road, Teignmouth. 

"All emergency services are in attendance and the road will remain closed for the foreseeable future.

"We advise road users to avoid the area and seek alternative routes.

"Log 364 for [1 August 2022]."
