Anonymous donor helps Dawlish Carnival parade headline act fundraiser reach target
An anonymous donor has given around £2,500 to a fundraiser to bring back a headline act for Dawlish Carnival's parade.
The fundraising appeal was launched earlier this year, and had raised £500 on its GoFundMe page, £1,000 in a contribution from the Dawlish Chamber of Trade and Commerce, and more in direct donations.
Thanks to the donor, it has reached its target.
The parade has not been held since 2019 due to the Covid-19 pandemic. This year's parade will see the return of Rampage Mas, a touring carnival band, as the headline act, followed by a community parade with walking groups.
A carnival organiser spokesperson said: "On Tuesday [19 July] we received the fantastic news that an anonymous donor will top up our raised funds of £500 from GoFundMe, £1,000 from the Dawlish Chamber of Trade and Commerce and along with other funding we have received offline which means Rampage Mas are coming to carnival in Dawlish!
"The donor is donating around £2,500 and it meant as the programme went to print we could include the line they are in the parade. It's amazing!"
Carnival week will take place in Dawlish from Saturday 13 to Friday 19 August this year.
