'Showing the world how brilliant Dawlish looks this Christmas' is the aim of the town's Chamber of Trade.

Chairman Neil Salter took to Facebook to welcome the 'light at the end of the tunnel' as the current lockdown comes to an end next week, on Wednesday, December 2.

He said he is 'praying' that the area will be placed in the least restrictive Tier One category, although he recognised there is a possibility that it will be Tier Two.

What would Tier Two mean?

The regional tiers will be announced tomorrow (Thursday, November 26), based on the infection rate in each local area.

Under Tier One most businesses will be able to reopen, with social distancing and other precautions in place. Households can mix indoors or outdoors under the 'rule of six'.

Under Tier Two, pubs and bars would have to remain closed unless operating as restaurants, and households would not be allowed to mix with people outside their 'support bubble' in any indoor setting.

Get your Christmas trees up, and your shop windows decorated.

Mr Salter said whichever tier Dawlish is in, he will be showcasing its Christmas attractions via photos and video on social media.

In a video message to the Chamber of Trade's members, he urged any business which had already got its festive trees and window decorations in place to let him know so that he could come and photograph it.

He also reassured businesses that have not yet received their Christmas trees that a further supply is on its way, wall mounting brackets will be fitted early next week, and Sean from the Shoe Centre has organised an electrician to install the lights.

He said: "The photos are going to be better than ever this year, the promotion is going to be bigger than ever this year, and once everyone has their trees in I shall be running around the town with my video camera, showing the world how brilliant Dawlish looks this Christmas."

Dawlish Nub News will be sharing Neil's photos and videos, with his permission, to help him spread the message.
