An investigation is under way after all five of Dawlish's black swan cygnets died, along with a 12-month-old bird.

On Friday, November 6, the Dawlish Waterfowl wardens posted on Facebook to announce the sad news that two of the cygnets had been found dead near their nest the previous night.

A scaled-down, socially-distanced service of remembrance took place at the War Memorial on Wednesday, November 4.

Instead of the usual parade and church service, a small group of civic dignitaries, members of the Royal British Legion and representatives of the Army, Navy and Air Force attended an outdoor service in the Memorial Garden, led by the Rev Dallas Ayling.

A fresh objection is to be made to the dumping of dredged marine waste in the sea off the Dawlish and Teignmouth coast.

Concerns have already been raised with the Marine Management Organisation (MMO), which granted the licence to dispose of dredged material from Exmouth Marina about 7km out to sea.
