The completed first section of Dawlish's new sea wall.

The WaveWalker machine currently building the foundations for section two of Dawlish's new sea wall has been attracting a lot of interest this week.

The enormous structure, that moves sideways like a crab, is inserting cylindrical steel piles into the ground on the sea-facing side, to make sure the new wall will be super-strong and able to withstand major storms.

Colourful knitted poppies at Dawlish's Poppy Wall

The railing at the lower end of Dawlish Bowling Club has been transformed into a colourful and poignant tribute to those lost in wars, after the town council decided to create a Poppy Wall of Remembrance.

The Poppy Wall was set up after the usual Remembrance events – a parade and public church service – had to be cancelled because of the Covid-19 restrictions. It was intended to enable Dawlish residents to pay their own tributes in a publicly visible way.
