Devon County Council predicts it will overspend by £7.3 million this financial year in its latest budget update.

Adult care & health and children's services are projected to have the biggest overspends, with County Treasurer Mary Davis warning that "significant pressures are being experienced" in both departments and the situation "will need to be monitored closely in the coming months".

Delays and cancellations to GWR services are expected to continue until the end of Saturday 4 September after a lorry collided with a bridge between Plymouth and Totnes on Tuesday 31 August.

Great Western Railway is advising customers that a limited train service between Plymouth and Newton Abbot will be 'much busier than normal', and trains between Exmouth and Paignton are running but may be 'subject to alteration'.

West End star Kieran Brown is coming to Dawlish this weekend to hold workshops for children and adults based on the hit West End musicals Matilda, Les Miserables and The Phantom of the Opera.

Taking place at Holcombe Village Hall, participants will learn all about the show, as well as learn a musical number from the production!

The 'Hope Centre' will feature a 330-seat auditorium, public café, and function room, and will be the primary venue for Dawlish Christian Fellowship (DCF), which is set to be replanted as Hope Church.

DCF wants the building to be not 'just a place to meet on a Sunday', but also for the Hope Centre and Hope Café to be 'spaces for the wider community to gather, share life together and make new friends throughout the week'.

Disruption to bin collections in Teignbridge is 'likely to continue' unless vacancies for HGV drivers are filled.

The councillor in charge of collections has admitted that the shortage has led to some residents not getting their bins emptied. The district council normally operates with around 50 drivers for its in-house service, but 10 of those jobs are currently vacant. Staff are working weekends to try to catch up.

August 2021 was drier but cloudier and cooler than average.

Low pressure dominated the weather patterns during the first ten days of August. Winds were light initially until a rather deep area of Low pressure moved across Ireland on the 5th and 6th. The Low then lingered over Scotland for several days with its associated weather fronts crossing the district, resulting in a wet and windier spell of weather. Despite the unsettled weather, daily rainfall totals were not especially large and there were some sunny periods too. After the 10th, pressure rose a little but weak weather systems brought further sporadic rain. On the 21st a more active weather front produced what was for most of the district the wettest day of the month. A strong build in pressure followed this front and High pressure came to dominate the weather pattern for the remainder of the month.
