Dawlish and Teignmouth Camera Club has launched a photo competition as part of the Great Big Green Week taking place from 18-26 September in the town.

The Great Big Green Week is a national event organised by the Climate Coalition, and Sustainable Dawlish has organised a series of events during the week. Dawlish Against Plastic has also organised a town litter pick and extra beach clean.

Dawlish residents can now see the number of Covid cases in their area on an interactive government map.

Dashcams are being distributed to businesses and organisations whose members are often out on the road in Devon and Cornwall, so that they can capture footage of dangerous driving.

South West Water, the RNLI and the regional housing association Live West are among those who've been provided with the 170 cameras, in a scheme jointly funded by National Highways and the Devon and Cornwall Police and Crime Commissioner's office.

The South Western Ambulance Service is asking people to only dial 999 in a life-threatening emergency after facing the highest demand ever on its 999 service.

Will Warrender, Chief Executive of South Western Ambulance Service, said: "We are currently experiencing unprecedented sustained demand on our 999 service.

A 'Fix Fest' will soon be held at the Manor House on Old Town Street in Dawlish for members of the public to have broken items fixed.

It will take place on Saturday 25 September from 9.30am-2.30pm. Volunteers present may be able to repair bikes, electrical items, material needing sewing, and more.

The next face-to-face meeting of Dawlish poetry group Poetry for Pleasure is set to take place this Saturday 18 September.

If you'd like to come along, they will meet at 10.30am in the foyer of Dawlish Methodist Church on Brunswick Place.

Further calls have been made to extend a 30 mph speed limit along a road in Newton Abbot described as a 'death trap'.

Currently the eastern entrance to the town on Shaldon Road, just past the junction with Haytor Drive to Milber service station industrial units, has a 40 mph limit before it drops to 30 nearer the town centre.

The Dawlish 2401 Air Training Corps is now recruiting new cadets.

Regular Covid tests, face coverings in communal areas and one-way systems are among the measures in place at Devon's schools and colleges as pupils return to the classroom.

Devon, and the rest of the South West, is a designated 'enhanced response area' because of the relatively high number of Covid cases, meaning local authorities have more flexibility to introduce additional public health measures.
