Urine was found on the bandstand on Dawlish Lawn this morning (Tuesday 24 May) following a spruce-up of the town landmark.

Volunteers had cleaned the bandstand and repainted a pillar on Friday and at the weekend, in preparation for the Queen's Platinum Jubilee next week.

Today's grim discovery was reportedly found on the floor and up one of the walls, with a smell described as 'definitely pee'. It will mean the bandstand must be cleaned again.

A spokesperson for Dawlish Town Council said: "It's a real shame - last Friday and over the weekend volunteers cleaned down the bandstand, repainted a pillar and did the floor to give it a good look for the Jubilee weekend.

"Only to find this morning someone has decided to pee on the floor and up a wall (smell is definitely pee). Looks like we will be disinfecting the bandstand again before the 1st June. The bandstand is owned by the district council but we hoped with volunteers to make it look as good as we could for the Jubilee."
