Teignmouth woman to march in Cenotaph service on Remembrance Sunday
A former Army nurse from Teignmouth is set to march in the National Service of Remembrance at the Cenotaph in Whitehall on Sunday (13 November).
Julie Wadham served 22 years as a nurse with Queen Alexandra's Royal Army Nursing Corps from 1999 to 2021.
She toured in Sierra Leone and Afghanistan and also took part in caring for the most seriously injured at Headley Court, a rehabilitation centre in Surrey.
The 46-year-old is now a veterans' clinical advisor for charity Help for Heroes, providing health coaching, advocacy and support to veterans to help them access NHS services in their area.
Her father is also a veteran of the Falklands War and served 13 years in the Army's catering corps.
Julie said: "Remembrance, for me, is not just thinking about those that lost their lives, but about those that are living with the physical and psychological injuries because of their service.
"This is why my job is so important to me. I want to help those veterans suffering in any way I can.
"I have marched past the Cenotaph once before and it's a very humbling and emotional event to be part of.
"To march alongside fellow veterans and show my respect in this way is an honour."
Julie will be among over 20 veterans from Help for Heroes wearing tri-service colours at the ceremony at the Cenotaph.
