Firefighters from Teignmouth and nine other stations were called out to a blaze that "fully engulfed" commercial workshops in the Broadhempston area, near Totnes, on Monday evening (23 January).

Crews were called to the scene just before 6.30pm and the incident was dealt with by around 4pm on Tuesday.

The cause of the fire is believed to have been accidental.

A Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: "Fire Control mobilised fire appliances from Buckfastleigh and Totnes to reports of a fire within commercial workshops in the Broadhempston area.

"Further appliances from Paignton and Torquay were also mobilised due to reports of the workshops being heavily alight.

"The single storey construction measured 60x30 metres and was fully engulfed in fire. Crews got to work extinguishing the fire using one aerial ladder platform from Torquay, five attack jets, one water tower and three LPPs.

"Crews have confirmed that the cause of the fire is believed to be accidental."
