Firefighters from Dawlish, Teignmouth and Torquay responded to a fire in a commercial kitchen in Shaldon yesterday (Thursday 2 June).

They were called out just after 11.45am to the Ness Hotel, Shaldon.

When the Teignmouth fire crews arrived, the fire was already out thanks to the 'swift actions' of staff in isolating and using a fire blanket on the cooking appliance before evacuating.

A spokesperson for Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service said: "Fire control received a call from on site staff to a fire within their commercial kitchen. They sent a crews from Teignmouth, Dawlish & Torquay.

"On arrival by Teignmouth crews it was confirmed the fire was out by the swift actions by staff in isolating the cooking appliance in use and using a fire blanket, before leaving and evacuating the premises."

The fire service also highlighted safety advice for businesses on its website.
