Police appeal after A38 Haldon Hill car crash leaves three with serious injuries

Police are appealing for witnesses of a car crash on the northbound carriageway of the A38 at Haldon Hill yesterday (Thursday 30 December) at around 4.20pm that left three people with serious injuries.

The two cars involved, a Porsche Boxster and a Volkswagen Golf, left the road as a result of the crash.

The fire service had to free people from both cars who had become trapped inside.

Three people in the Volkswagen Golf were taken to hospital with serious injuries, including a young child who was later taken to Bristol Children's Hospital where he 'remains in a serious condition'. The driver of the Porsche was also injured and taken to hospital.

The road was closed for seven hours for police to investigate and for the vehicles to be recovered.

A spokesperson for Devon and Cornwall Police said: "Police are appealing for information following a collision on the A38 in Exeter yesterday [30 December] which left three people, including a child, seriously injured.

"Officers were called around 4.20pm following the collision between a Porsche Boxster and a Volkswagen Golf on the northbound carriageway at Haldon Hill. Both cars left the carriageway as a result of the collision.

"Three people in the Volkswagen Golf were treated for serious injuries and taken to Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital. One of the occupants, a young child, was later taken to Bristol Children's Hospital where he remains in a serious condition.

"The female driver of the Porsche also sustained injuries and was taken to Derriford Hospital.

"The ambulance and fire services attended the incident.

"The A38 was closed for seven hours for a forensic examination of the scene to take place and for the vehicles to be recovered.

"Officers from the Roads Policing Team are investigating the circumstances surrounding the collision and asking for any witnesses to contact them. They are also keen to receive any relevant dash cam footage."
