Plans to build a new two-bedroom single-storey bungalow in the rear garden of 5 Barton Villas in Dawlish have been withdrawn.

Had the application been approved, it would also have seen the garage block refurbished.

The property is a semi-detached late Victorian villa divided into apartments over three storeys. It is not listed.

It has a "substantial" garden which extends to Barton Lane, and contains a garage and a small outbuilding.

The new bungalow in the garden would have been set eight metres back from Barton Lane with a size of 144.4 square metres. (For reference, a tennis court is about 260 square metres).

According to the planning documents, it would have had a "shallow pitched roof and low height" to ensure it stayed "visually subservient to the main building and adjacent garages".

The bungalow would have been accessed from Barton Lane and have had a gravel driveway with a gate.
