The A379 between Chudleigh Road and the Devon Hotel near Exeter will be closed to traffic for five days at the end of May for Devon County Council to lift a new footbridge into place.

The work will take place from 10pm on Monday 29 May until midnight on Friday 2 June.

Devon County Council said it chose half term for the road closure to "take advantage of the reduced commuter traffic".

Cllr Stuart Hughes, Devon County Council's Cabinet Member for Highways Management, said: "Advanced notification signs will be displayed on surrounding roads in the weeks leading up to the work and diversion signs will be in place as the work takes place.

"Unfortunately, due to the nature of the works some noise is unavoidable. We will however attempt to keep this to a minimum, and please accept our apologies in advance."

The footbridge has been delivered in sections, and engineers have constructed it on the roadside ready to be lifted into place by a large crane.
