One lane of the M5 southbound bridge over the River Exe near Topsham has been closed for emergency repairs.

The lane closure is expected to be in place until Saturday morning.

Drivers have been warned to expect delays.

A National Highways spokesperson said: "Lane one of three is closed on the M5 southbound between J30 and J31 due to an infrastructure defect.

"This lane closure is likely to be on for some time whilst contractors work to repair the defect.

"Please allow extra time when travelling as delays may occur in the area."
