PCC Alison Hernandez announced plans to reopen the Newton Abbot police station in the summer (PCC)

The police enquiry desk at Newton Abbot police station will reopen on Monday (21 November), the Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner has announced.

Its initial opening hours will be Mondays and Tuesdays from 10am to 3pm. It will have a "full opening" in January 2023.

At front desks the public can report crime, receive prevention advice and meet officers and staff. They are also reopening in Truro, Penzance, and Tiverton.

PCC Alison Hernandez said: "I want these stations to be regarded as places where members of the community can seek advice and reassurance and would urge those thinking of contacting the police via the 101 service to consider whether they could visit one of these stations in person.

"Face-to-face contact with the force as an essential component of policing and I am keen to reopen more front desks next year."

Twelve front desks were shut in Devon and Cornwall in 2014 as a result of austerity cuts.
