Dawlish councillors John and Linda Petherick paid a visit to the newly formed Armed Forces and veterans breakfast club at the Smugglers Inn on Saturday (12 November).

The pair represent the Dawlish South West and Dawlish North East wards respectively as independents on the town council.

The club had its first breakfast on 13 August this year. The breakfasts, costing £8 per person, are held on the second Saturday of each month and anyone with a connection to the military is welcome.

The councillors said: "John was in the RAF for 24 years and is a veteran himself.

"The breakfast club needs funds to enable them to raise awareness so they can reach as many veterans as possible in the area.

"John wants to support them as much as he can by funding the leaflets and supporting other activities.

"He is hoping to get Dawlish Water Rotary to host a pig race for the veterans to raise much-needed funds which will help Heather and her husband to provide other activities to enable the veterans to meet and support each other and to create new friendships.

"A big thank-you has to go to Nick the owner of The Smugglers Inn for accommodating the veterans every month."
