Dawlish will soon see a new and improved play park in the Manor Gardens and a children's trail on the Lawn after councillors backed the plans at a town council meeting this week.

After some back-and-forth, councillors voted unanimously to approve the refurbishment and extension of the play park.

The final cost amounts to just over £320k. The budget for the work is £343k, with £143k coming from Teignbridge District Council and £200k from Dawlish Town Council.

What will it look like?

The play park will have two separate areas, one fenced and one unfenced (for now, at least).

Concept drawings show familiar play park features, such as a see-saw, slide, picnic benches, swings, but also black-swan themed 'rockers' and coastal-themed apparatus such as a model train and fisherman's hut.

Outside the fenced area are drawn further swings, a climbing apparatus with a slide, and more.

For those with disabilities, there will be a variety of options including a roundabout and swing for wheelchair users.

The children's trail will run alongside the Brook up the path on the Lawn, through the Knowle, and finally to the play park.

When will it be ready?

The town council has said that 'all being well, it should be open in the new year.'

It may take around five months for work to start.
