An entertaining music video has been made to encourage more volunteers to join Dawlish Community Transport – a lifeline for many local residents.

The charity, with its wheelchair-accessible vehicles, transports people to health appointments, social and leisure activities, shopping trips and more. During the Covid pandemic it's been at the centre of many initiatives to support Dawlish's most vulnerable people.

But now, it's desperate for more volunteers, not only to help with driving, but also office work, fundraising, admin and vehicle cleaning and maintenance.

The idea of a recruitment video was put forward – and some of Dawlish's talented residents stepped forward to help make it happen.

The Dawlish-based country, folk and Celtic band Maddy and the Chaps agreed to perform for the video, and Neil Salter, the camera and technology expert from Dawlish Beach Cams, took on the filming and editing work.

They chose the John Denver song 'Country Roads', to reflect the many trips made by Dawlish Community Transport around Devon's towns and countryside.

The video shows the band performing the song around Dawlish, interspersed with clips of the Community Transport volunteers and vehicles at work. It ends with the line: "Take me home down Devon's roads."

The video is out now and can be found on YouTube, Facebook and Instagram -and the band have also put clips on TiKTok.

If you view it on Maddy and the Chaps's social media pages, you can also find out about all the band's summer gigs around Dawlish and Teignmouth.

Alternatively you will also find links at Dawlish Beach Cams, where you can also subscribe or follow what's happening in Dawlish from sunrise to sunset, or follow their Facebook or Instagram page for some amazing videos and photos from in and around Dawlish.

Here are more details of the ways volunteers can help Dawlish Community Transport – and it can be just a few days a year, or something more regular on a weekly or monthly basis.

  • Driving the minibuses and cars
  • Shopmobility - helping with deliveries and maintenance
  • Fundraising and Events – join in with our fundraising/awareness activities
  • Assisting in the office - answering the phone/helping with administration
  • Keeping up appearances - helping with cleaning, maintaining vehicles, equipment and grounds
  • Trustees and Committee Members – support the Charity to thrive

A volunteer enquiry form can be found on the Dawlish Community Transport Site www.dawlish-mobility.co.uk and the team will be in touch with you to get you involved once your form is submitted. If you don't have access to the website, leave a message on the answer phone 01626 888890.and they'll get back to you.
