A lit cigarette left in an ashtray may have caused a fire at a Dawlish Warren holiday park last week.

The blaze, which destroyed a table and scorched the surrounds, had already been extinguished by other residents on site when fire crews arrived.

A Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: "Last week crews were turned out to a fire at a holiday park.

"On arrival, the fire had been extinguished by some other residents on site before the holiday home had really caught.

"The fire was possibly caused by a cigarette left lit in an ash tray on the outside table. As you can see, there is no table left.

"Crews used a TIC (thermal imaging camera) to check for hot spots before leaving it in the hands of the park management."
