Firefighters put out fire that started in bathroom of Dawlish flat
Firefighters put out a fire that started in the bathroom of a first-floor flat in Dawlish on Friday night (28 October).
Crews from Dawlish, Teignmouth and Newton Abbot were called out to the blaze at around 10.37pm.
When they arrived, they saw smoke and flames coming from the first-floor flat in the two-storey building and asked for backup.
The firefighters put out the blaze, which completely destroyed the bathroom and left the rest of the first floor 70 per cent damaged by fire and smoke.
One male occupant was treated for slight smoke inhalation at the scene.
The cause of the fire was deemed to be accidental.
A spokesperson for Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service said: "Fire control received several calls to a property fire within Dawlish. A call from the occupant was also taken confirming a fire had started in the bathroom of the property. Three appliances from the above location were immediately mobilised.
"Once crewed arrived on scene, a request for a fourth fire appliance was sent to fire control which came from Newton Abbot. Crews confirmed smoke and flames issuing from a two-storey first floor flat which had now spread to the whole first floor and an attack jet with two breathing apparatus was deployed. This was soon escalated to six breathing apparatus, two hose reel jets, two safety jets, and one attack jet.
"One male occupant of the property suffered from slight smoke inhalation which was seen to by the ambulance service who soon after discharged him on scene.
"There was 100% fire damage to the bathroom and 70% fire and smoke damage to the remainder of the first floor. The cause of the fire was deemed to be accidental."
