Anne Marie Morris MP has welcomed the news today (Monday 5 September) that Liz Truss will become the next prime minister.

The Newton Abbot MP, whose constituency includes Dawlish, had already announced her support for the former Foreign Secretary on Twitter last month.

She told Dawlish Nub News: "Absolutely fantastic result - as prime minister, Liz Truss will drive the changes we need to grow the economy, make our country safe, and deliver the urgent help individuals and businesses need to survive the cost-of-living crisis."

Ms Morris had supported Tom Tugendhat's leadership bid before he was knocked out of the race.

The contest came after Boris Johnson resigned on 7 July as Conservative leader amid mounting pressure, which she also welcomed.
