A recent group skydive raised more than £4200 last month (July 2021) for a Teignmouth-based charity.

Volunteering in Health provides support to people in Teignmouth, Dawlish, and Chudleigh, and has welcomed the money raised after most of its fundraising activities had to be put on hold during the pandemic.

A small group of people from Volunteering in Health volunteered for the skydive, which was initially due to take place in August 2019 but was cancelled three times due to bad weather.

Cancelled again in March 2020 due to the pandemic, it was not until July 2021 that the group finally managed to take the plunge.

Office Manager Nicki Engert, who signed up to do the jump to celebrate her 50th birthday, said: "I'm not much of a thrill seeker, however I decided to take a leap of faith and (literally) face my fears.

"I'm so glad I did! It was one of the best experiences of my life.

"I would recommend it to anyone, it's not as scary as you think."

Memory Loss Support Worker Amanda Da Silva said: "It is one of the most liberating, exhilarating, and breath-taking things I have ever experienced - made even better with my daughter there to see it!"

The charity is based in Teignmouth Hospital and was awarded the Queen's Award for Voluntary Service earlier this year in recognition of its work in the community.
