Dawlish (including Dawlish Warren) has ranked 8th place on the UK leaderboard for most fish and chip shops (or restaurants serving fish and chips) listed on TripAdvisor, with Penaligons Plaice in Dawlish Warren coming 2nd in the country for best value.

Card payment company takepayments compared towns across the nation in terms of the number of restaurants serving fish and chips listed on TripAdvisor, and also took the price of a portion of cod, chips, and mushy peas from each town's top-rated outlet to find out which town's favourite chippy offered the best value for money.

The rankings

In terms of sheer numbers, Bournemouth won first place with 119 restaurants, with Torquay second and Paignton third. Dawlish came eighth with 68 fish and chip outlets, and Exmouth came 11th with 57.

In terms of value for money (based on the price of a portion of cod and chips and mushy peas from the best-reviewed restaurant), Margate came first with £5, Dawlish Warren's Penaligons Plaice second with £6, and Exmouth's The Proper Fish and Chips Co. eighth with £8.55.
