Dawlish Community Transport is currently training a new driver to operate its vehicles.

It comes after a recent government cash boost allowed community transport charities in Devon to provide more training and volunteering opportunities.

Devon County Council's successful bid on behalf of the Team Devon partnership to the government's Community Renewal Fund saw it receive £9.3m in funding - £510,459 of which went to Tiverton-based charity Mid Devon Mobility to develop its 'Stronger Together' Project.

The project is in collaboration with TRIP Community Transport Association, Dawlish Community Transport Association and Ivybridge Ring & Ride, and seeks to give individuals in rural areas more employment opportunities.

Manager of Dawlish Community Transport Sally Preston said: "[This project] will bring a huge number of opportunities through training, upskilling and can support services to people throughout the whole of Devon. We have a limited time and fund to share the project in our community and welcome enquiries from anyone interested in finding out more. Keep a check on our Facebook page for updates and more information.

"Our charities are known particularly for helping their older, less able and disabled communities – however this project encompasses a new set of beneficiaries and is for the whole community to benefit, both younger (16 yrs) and older."

Dawlish Community Transport offers transport for most abilities to medical/health and wellbeing appointments as well as regular door-to-door ring-and-ride services to enable you to do your banking, shopping and more. There are also weekly social trips and minibus hire for community groups.
