Dawlish Community Transport has added a new replacement wheelchair-accessible car to its fleet.

The charity was able to buy the vehicle thanks in part to an anonymous donor.

It has named it 'Oscar' after the story of how the granddaughter of one of its passengers won a competition to name a baby seal.

Dawlish Community Transport passenger Wendy said: "On a visit to the former Living Coast Sanctuary in Torquay some years ago with my granddaughter Vicki, we had the opportunity to see a newborn baby seal.

"On the way out of the centre all the children were encouraged to write a name for the new baby seal and pop it into a huge container.

"Vicki wasn't sure at first but… came up with 'Oscar.'

"After several weeks went by, a phone call arrived to say she had won and the name was given to the new baby seal."

Dawlish Community Transport offers transport to medical appointments and regular door-to-door ring-and-ride services.
