Police caught as many as 146 drivers speeding in one hour on the A379 between Teignmouth and Dawlish early on Friday morning (12 May).

The offences were recorded on a stretch of the road on the outskirts of Teignmouth where the limit is 30mph.

A Devon and Cornwall Police spokesperson said: "Disappointing to see high levels of non-compliance with the limit in this residential area, with lots of dog walkers early this morning.

"146 offences in one hour. We can be anywhere, at any time."

Drivers caught speeding usually receive a notice of intended prosecution. Penalties can include, for example, a choice of a speed awareness course, a £100 fine and three points on your licence, or court proceedings - but there are exceptions.
