A free bonfire and fireworks display is set to take place this weekend in Teignmouth and Shaldon.

On Saturday 29 October, from 6.30pm there will be a Harry Potter-themed bonfire on Shaldon beach and a fireworks display from 7.15pm at the Point in Teignmouth.

Members of the public are welcome to bring clean wood without nails or other metal and Harry Potter guys to Shaldon beach from 10am to 3pm on the day.

Organisers are encouraging people to use public transport, and highlighting that the Teignmouth-Shaldon ferry will be running all evening.

There will be free parking for three hours available at Morrisons in Teignmouth. The Ness car park in Shaldon will also be open but is anticipated to fill up quickly.

A spokesperson for the event said: "Come and enjoy a wonderful firework display. There are stalls with soup, burgers and goodies. This is a great family event, fun for everyone.

"We would also be very grateful for volunteers to help us build the bonfire during the day or in the evening by selling the burgers and collecting the money in buckets that will finance next year's event. It's always lots of fun to be part of the bonfire and fireworks team, so please email the Parish Clerk, Nicola, at [email protected] to volunteer.

"Please remember that, to keep everyone safe at this very popular family event and to ensure access for emergency vehicles, there will be extensive road closures in place around the centre of Shaldon from 4pm to approximately 8.30/9pm on 29 October.

"Please be aware that the fireworks will be set off for approximately 10/15 minutes starting at 7.15pm and take any measures necessary to keep your pets indoors and safe during that time.

"The volunteers organising this much-loved family event thank you very much for your help and cooperation."

The free community event will be hosted by Shaldon Parish Council and Teignmouth Town Council. Donations are welcome.
