A socially distanced beach clean is being organised by Dawlish Against Plastic on Saturday, January 2.

The environmental group has adapted to Covid-19 by drawing up a new risk assessment, and anyone wanting to join the beach clean is being asked to register in advance.

Dawlish Against Plastic explained that beach cleans are not the same as litter picks, meaning they are necessary during the winter when fewer people are visiting the beach.

The work is needed to remove bits of plastic, marine waste and other material washed up by the sea.

Lately the group has also been clearing up pieces of the black material used as a kind of grouting in the new sea wall: read more here: Concerns over use of wetsuit material in Dawlish sea wall

The group's last public beach clean in October removed nearly 40kg of waste, but they were unable to carry some items away: read more here Dawlish Against Plastic beach clean

Saturday's beach clean starts at 2pm. To register, email DawlishAgainst [email protected] or call 07791 464 995.
