Dawlish and Teignmouth's GP practices have released more details of their Covid vaccination programme.
The next group of priority patients from the Coastal Network, comprising Barton Surgery in Dawlish, the Channel View Medical Group and the Teign Estuary Medical Group, will be invited for their jabs at Dawlish Community Hospital on Thursday and Friday of this week (January 7 and 8).
The Coastal Network explained that each delivery of the vaccines includes around 975 doses, and these are being allocated equally between the practices, based on each practice's patient population.
The first vaccines were given on December 22 and 23, and patients aged over 80 with underlying health conditions were prioritised, along with those in a BAME category. Because the GP practices received news of the vaccines' delivery at very short notice, they also had to prioritise patients who could be contacted quickly via email or mobile phone.
People over 80 who are eligible for this week's vaccinations are being contacted now, the oldest first.
Who will get the vaccine next?
When the Coastal Network is advised of its next delivery of vaccines, for the third round of jabs, it will be contacting patients who have informed the practices that they are health and social care workers. These patients will have to show proof of their employment when they attend their appointments; this could be in the form of their work ID card, a payslip, a letter from their employer or something similar.
Residents and staff at care homes are also in the high priority group, and the Coastal Network says it is working with the homes to arrange their jabs 'very soon'.
