A survey to gauge demand for the minor injuries unit at Dawlish Community Hospital has been launched.

It comes as part of a Friends of Dawlish Hospital, Dawlish Town Council and Teignmouth Town Council campaign to see the MIU back up and running.

Dawlish's MIU was closed in March 2020 but will reopen soon, according to the NHS trust responsible for it - although it has not given an exact date.

The unit's opening hours would initially be 8am to 5pm Monday to Friday with the "ambition" being to open seven days a week.

A spokesperson for the campaign said: "We are collecting information to show how much the MIU is missed and by reopening it how it could reduce the use of A&E units at Torbay and Exeter hospitals.

"We will use the results to lobby commissioners and give to our MP to petition the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care to justify the re-opening of Dawlish MIU now!"
