Black swan cygnets hatch in Dawlish
Black swan cygnets have now hatched in Dawlish after eggs were laid on the small island in Dawlish Water at Tuck's Plot in January.
It is unclear at the time of writing how many have hatched, but it is believed to be six or seven.
Eggs were also laid in the same spot in January last year, but they were removed to the waterfowl compound in February after the male swan of the breeding pair was killed by a dog.
Five cygnets then hatched at the compound on Brunswick Place and were later released into Dawlish Water. The only male cygnet of the five was killed by an animal shortly afterwards.
A new adult male swan, named Bert, was introduced in March and has since paired up with the adult female.
