A video featuring posters made by children from three local primary schools in and around Dawlish has been put together by Dawlish Town Council's Climate Declaration Working Group.

The posters are designed to encourage adults to change their behaviour and consider their impact on the planet, and were produced by pupils from Gatehouse Primary Academy, West Cliff Primary Academy, and Cockwood Primary School.

It comes ahead of Great Big Green Week, a national event organised by the Climate Coalition, taking place from 18-26 September in Dawlish. Sustainable Dawlish has organised a series of events during the week, Dawlish Against Plastic has organised a town litter pick and extra beach clean, and Dawlish and Teignmouth Camera Club has also just launched a photography competition.

Messages on the posters include: 'tell yourself every day that you can make a difference in the world', 'dry your clothes on a washing line instead of a tumble dryer', and 'try not to leave the TV on standby'.

Councillor Rosie Dawson, from the town council's Climate Declaration Working Group, said: "We took on a project to approach local children and put together a video of tips for people to start considering the environment.

"It has taken ages because of Covid - it kept stopping and starting - and it's now finished.

"We planned originally for it to have 30 [posters] of their nice brightly coloured tips for people, but it morphed into 64 children getting involved. I didn't want to drop any of their pictures, so every single picture has had to be used.

"The children were quite passionate about giving adults instructions, which was lovely!"
